Flavours at zero kilometres

The Cilento Pantry is the showcase of the producers of Pioppi and neighbouring municipalities: oil, fish, fruit and cheese from a short and organic supply chain. Each profile shows the green traceability of the supply chain — the distance from the village and the sustainable practices — to reduce the carbon footprint linked to transport and food.

Promoting local producers means shortening the supply chain, enhancing the economy of the territory and preserving the flavours that are the heart of the Mediterranean Diet and of Cilento longevity.

Four green supply chains
of Cilento

Each supply chain is mapped with its distance from Pioppi and the practices that make it sustainable.

I
PDO Cilento EVO oil · 6 km from Pioppi

Extra-virgin from Pisciottana and Rotondella olives, cold-pressed within 24 hours of harvest by the cooperative mills of San Mauro Cilento. Hand-picked, PDO Cilento certification.

II
Menaica anchovies · caught off Pioppi

Slow Food Presidium: anchovies caught with the ancient "menaica" net off Pioppi, processed by hand and preserved under salt by fishing families. Traditional low-impact fishing, at zero kilometres.

III
PDO Cilento White Figs · 9 km away

Sun-dried according to tradition and processed by hand. A historic supply chain of the territory, symbol of the diet of the centenarians. Natural drying, PDO Cilento certification.

IV
Cacioricotta & goat dairy · 8 km away

Cheeses from semi-wild farming of the hilly hinterland of Serramezzana, made with milk drawn within a few kilometres. Daily artisanal processing.
